Revelation 14:13 ESV

Series: Rest

I’ve had many dear saints I’ve been blessed to know from churches we served through the years and even when I was thirty I was told getting old is not easy.

I watch my own Mother as she nears 100 years and I marvel at her ability to walk, talk, and even remember. The most difficult thing she remembers is that everyone from her generation is now gone. She tells me she doesn’t know why she’s still here.

At this point in my life I can empathize but I do not know what it would really feel like to be the only one left. She was very outgoing and she had many many friends and all of them have passed on. She buried two good husbands. She recently lost a grandson.

Revelation 14:13, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

I tell her she has a promise. She wants to know when. I remind her I am not on God’s list to know how others will die and when.

I think she knows as she loses strength, she will have trials and she doesn’t want trials.   mean, seriously, who does?

She is living at an age when she has time to rest. But she really doesn’t rest a lot. She’s always been a doer. She still cooks and occasionally asks questions once in a great while go to Google. . I tell her…so do I but my questions. She knows who Google is, but she doesn’t trust Google.

I pray she will remember the things God taught her. I pray she will let God affirm her.

I pray that she will find joy in each new day on this earth.

And I pray that in God’s own time she will rest in the arms of Jesus.

About Me

I am a child of God. I can’t remember when God wasn’t part of my life. I served in a church setting for 30+ years and now I seek to help others see and find their sacred space. Daily when we turn to God we begin to recognize where God is at work in our lives.
