National Paper Airplane Day Brief unofficial history of the paper airplane My Mother was born in the late 1920’s. She did not make paper airplanes. I was born in the 1950’s we were allowed to use old newspaper to make paper airplanes. My daughter was born in the late 1970’s and she used notebook paper. Holiday May Day The Maypole When I was in elementary school (eons ago) on May 1 we celebrated May Day by building or having a May Pole. We had great fun! We used a Tetherball Pole and the teacher attached various colors of crepe paper streamers to the top of the pole. A small number of students (8-10) would gather in a circle around the pole and we were each given a colored streamer to hold as we marched and In a circle. A ‘round’ was over when the streamers covered the pole.
