Philippians 1:27c NKJV
Over the course of my lifetime I’ve always known I was proud of my country, especially when times were difficult,
Philippians 1:27c tells us,“stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,”
But there have been times when I’ve been really sad.
On November 22, 1963 I was in a car with a few other classmates coming home from the circus in downtown Kansas City. We heard the President was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas.
I was afraid.
I didn’t know why he was shot.
We were all stunned! I remember being afraid. I remember wanting my Mom and Dad.
I couldn’t understand why someone would shoot President Kennedy.
I remember people in the USA praying for our country.
Later as an adult I remember September 11, 2001 the day the Twin Towers went down.
Once again I didn’t understand why it happened. I didn’t immediately know all of the details but I knew I was afraid. I lived in a smaller city in the Midwest but we had very tall buildings downtown.
The people where we lived wondered if we would be attacked.
I wasn’t alone with my fear. All across the USA people who lived in cities wondered the same thing.
People everywhere were afraid and we prayed.
We prayed for the USA.
Today the USA feels different.
It feels like we are under attack, but it’s a different kind of attack.
It’s more like a frightening feeling that there is an enemy but the enemy is from within.
The Godless who attack are among us. They might look the same and wear the same clothes, but they do not pray. They do not believe in God/Jesus.
They seek bold power that is not from God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. More than ever…we need to pray for the USA.
Now more than ever…pray!
Deborah
