Romans 12:18 ESV
From the Jar
I’ve always looked at life as a big adventure.
Sometimes there are unexpected twists and turns…and pitfalls.
But there are also great mountain top highs and exhilarating surprises.
This part of the series, From the Jar is a perfect example. As we explored scripture from the New Testament, God has given us a look at the difficulties we have faced in life and will face in the future. Through it all, God is always faithful to teach and guide us.
I’ve said before that every day, every story is a great adventure for me.
I begin each scripture by staring at a blank page.
I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that my plan is not best so as I pray about each scripture, I ask God to direct me.
Then I wait.
The waiting is not a passive act. It’s an act of waiting in anticipation for God to show me what He wants to teach me through that scripture.
As I wait I know God has a plan.
God has a purpose.
I don’t write for the sake of writing.
I write to hear what God HAS for me and for us.
Each day…every day is a great blessing to me because God never fails.
I’ve never prayed and listened to have God not answer. See, there’s a thing that God does and has always done. As I pray and wait, I know God wants to communicate with me (with us). God loves us and He loves it when we come to Him with a request. God loves it when we wait.
That’s because in that waiting moment when it’s just me and God, and there’s this wonderful thing that happens.
In that silent moment God shares His peace with me. He uses the silence as an opportunity to pour out His peace and love and goodness. It’s quite organic really. Sitting in silence with God means He has an opportunity to give Himself to us.
God does share His love and goodness and all the fruit of who He is, but the thing I notice most is His peace.
That’s because here on earth we don’t have anything that even comes close to God’s perfect peace.
Here on earth we have noise and clammer. We have talking and even yammering. We have strife and struggling.
Moments of perfect peace, God’s peace are hidden.
Sitting in silence and waiting for God’s peace is one of the greatest blessings we can hope to achieve here on earth.
It’s difficult for me to imagine what heaven is really like. During this series I shared that I lost my long time prayer partner. The instant she left this place I knew she had passed through heaven’s gate. I knew she was safe in the arms of Jesus. I knew she would forever be filled with God’s perfect peace.
I wept for hours.
I was happy for her, but I missed her and I felt great sorrow. I missed her terribly. I still miss her.
But now every time I think of how much I miss her, I remember she is forever healed and sitting at the feet of Jesus in heaven.
I know…I KNOW I will see her again.
I know she’s at peace.
I know when it’s my time, I too, will pass through heaven’s gate.
Romans 12:18 tells us, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
Until then, we can rely on moments when we sit in silence with God and receive His peace.
Until then we can look forward to peaceable moments we share with others on earth. That’s because God Loves us and wants to give good gifts to His children. God gives us peace.
Today’s Spiritual Practice is: Receive God’s Peace
Today take time to sit in silence with God.
In God, Deborah
