Psalm 104:1.
Series:Rest
I am a Mustang kind of girl
I drove a 1965 Mustang that was a soft bluish color. Google says it was Arcadian Blue. Oh how I loved that car.
That is, until I wrecked it when I accidentally did several donuts on a rainy night. As far as I can tell I did three donuts, then hit a pole which catapulted me into doing donuts in the opposite direction.
No..I did not think it was funny.
No…it was not intentional.
I was crying hysterically.
Since it was 1970 I didn’t have a cellular phone (I know…isn’t that crazy!) so I had to walk in the rain to a nearby house to call my dad. He had a 1969 Thunderbird and I was still crying when he came to the scene of the accident. He had called a tow truck so as soon as they took away the Mustang I went to get in the other car. I was still upset. He opened his hand where he was holding the keys to the Thunderbird and he pointed and said…”YOU drive”.
I told him I was never going to drive again and he replied, “You are driving home”.
With love and grace he not only forgave me for wrecking the Mustang, he basically told me he was trusting me to drive his Thunderbird!
I begged him not to make me drive but he stood fast so I did drive home. Because I drove home with him in the car, I felt like I could drive again.
For me, that story has always been a perfect example of grace on grace.
My dad was a believer and we had discussed the meaning of grace before. That day he modeled grace for me.
Psalm 104.1 tells us, “Bless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty.”
That day I learned that when i mess up (and i have always been capable of messing up really bad) God will forgive me. It was a great lesson I learned that day, probably the greatest lesson I’d learned up to that point.
That was many many many decades ago. I now have grandchildren who drive and galavant about learning all manner of good and profitable things about math and science and how to talk to people in other languages. They know as well about God’s forgiveness and love.
So Lord, many many decades later I bless your Holy name, and I thank uou gor your grace!
Deborah
