Omniscient

Psalm 139:1-5 NKJV

Hebrews 4:12-16 NKJV

From the Beginning

From before the beginning God has been all knowing, omniscient.

Psalm 139:4 says, “For there is not a word is on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.”

The first time I realized the presence of the Spirit of God was ON me I was enraptured by God’s presence. I was humbled beyond belief that God really did SEE me and know me. I realized God knew what I was thinking as I thought it. Since God can move through space and time He knew what I would say next. That’s because God knows.

When I was young, I tried talking to other believers about their experiences with the presence of the Spirit of God, and they looked at me like I was crazy. I then realized there are believers who have not experienced the presence of God. There are people who don’t know when the Spirit of the Lord intercedes. I wasn’t sure why my experience was different than theirs but according to how they reacted to my description, I knew it was different. It wasn’t better…just different.

I’ve come to realize that everyone has different gifts.

God interacts with us all in myriad of ways.

Our experiences are tailor-made.

The broader passage of Psalm 139:1-5 says:

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me.”

The first time I read Psalm 139 as an adult, I wept. I remember feeling like I wasn’t altogether alone in my experience with God. David the Shepherd boy…David the King understood!

In particular he made it clear in verse 3 that he understood that God sees and knows our path. Not only does God know where we lie down at night, God knows what we are thinking and feeling. God knows everything about us.

I’ve come to realize that as we give God our time and I listen as we pray, not only does God change our hearts in prayer, we can change the heart of God with our prayers. It’s a two way street relationship.

Understand that I am not saying that it’s easy for God to change my heart or easy for me to change the heart of God. But I’ve found that with prayer, patience, and presence I grow to understand God and become more like God. I don’t say that lightly. My changing to be more like God comes from the realization of who God really IS. God is the I AM.

When we connect to the I AM not only can we see and accept the character and nature of God, God knows why we are asking Him a specific request.

God knows our path and our path is changeless but ever-changing. That’s because God is changeless but ever-changing.

Also in Psalm 139:6-18, David tells us:

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You. For You formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.”

In the end David realized the wonder of God. He KNEW wherever he went God was already there preparing the way. Darkness and light were the same to God.

David saw the truth about God carefully forming him in his mother’s womb. Even then, nothing was unknown and God saw that it was good.

YOU are no different than David was to God. God has prepared the way for you. God sees you day and night and from the beginning of you, God saw you being formed in your mother’s womb. Nothing about you was unknown to God.

God saw and sees that you are good.

In Hebrews 4:13-16 we learn, “there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

God, the Son paid the price and knows and understands us. We can go to Jesus and tell Him anything. He understands what we face and because He experienced the same and more without sin, we can come boldly to the throne to receive His grace and mercy.

God Jesus KNOWS you. God accepts and receives you into His open arms.

Today’s Spiritual Practice is: KNOW

Embrace the KNOWING of God. We cannot understand it completely, but we can boldly receive it.

In God, Deborah
