You Formed

Series: Renewal

Psalm 139:13 ESV

Psalm 104:24 The Message

Expecting a child is a wonderful, awesome, scary, anxious, and elating.

Especially the first pregnancy can be all across the board with our emotions. Many women who haven’t been around babies a lot really have no idea what to expect.

Believers who have prayed and prayed to conceive a child usually continue to pray and pray that the baby will grow.

Psalm 139:13 tells us, “For you formed my inward parts;    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.”

Carrying a baby can make us realize the miracle of God forming the baby in the womb.

Having carried four children to term and being able to meet them for the first time is a wonderful miraculous event!

The first time I conceived I had a dream that I had a girl with sandy hair. In the dream she was small and gentle.

Many many years later I still marvel at how my oldest child still possesses the same characteristics she had in the womb.

She would gently move and barely wiggle.

She was still a lot. It was like she loved to nap.

When she did move it was just like a snuggling baby barely repositioning an arm or a leg.

That description fits my daughter to this day. She is intentional. She is gentle. She loves a good nap. She is a marvelous swimmer.

Then I had a second dream that I had a red headed boy. In the dream he was active and strong.

When I found out I was expecting a second time I thought I knew something about pregnancy. I soon learned I knew nothing.

My second child moved around a lot.

This baby was ready for action.

This child doubled up a fist and punched. You could see my stomach move!

This baby was rough and ready for action.

That description fits my oldest son to a T. He was (is) athletic and strong. He is decisive and intentional. He is red headed and ready for action.

I had a third dream that I had a small brown headed boy. In the dream he was intentional and funny.

The third child God formed was even more of a puzzle.

He had small swift movements.

He grew slowly.

There were times I was sure he was moving his fingers tapping on something.

Especially in the last month, it felt like he was intentionally moving back and forth.

My second son was very small. He had loads of brown hair. When he was a child he would  develop a plan of action and follow through with the steps. He is a great swimmer. He is musical and plays piano and trumpet. He was always busy creating “something”.

I had a another dream that I had a girl. I did not see her face, but I saw her riding a tricycle.

My fourth pregnancy did not last long enough for me to understand the characteristics of the child. I believe that child is in heaven playing with Jesus.

I had a fifth dream but I did not remember specific characteristics. It was a feeling dream  filled with strength and intentionality.

He grew quickly.

He was very strong.

He made intentional movements (like he was trying to get out so he could have more room).

He was my largest baby. He had scant brown hair. From the day was born he loved being held. He made an effort to come touch me and check in on a regular basis. He loved hugs.

All of them were very different. God created each child with an intentional purpose.

God formed each child for His purpose.

They are all very different and have different purposes.

Each one was created by God for a specific purpose. God formed them and knitted them together from the instant they were conceived to this day.

Psalm 104:24 tells us, “What a wildly wonderful world, God!    You made it all, with Wisdom at your side,    made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.”

What a wonderful, wonderful plan God has!
