Get Personal
I Corinthians 16:14
I read today’s scripture and thought about it for a while. Then I went to sit with friends. I sit with the same group every day at the same time, we don’t sit together for long, but it’s good to catch up with everyone.
Today we had a new woman join in. I’ve known her for a few years and I was glad she sat down.
Then about twenty minutes in, I started to get frustrated. She dominated the conversation the entire time we were sitting together.
While I Was not unkind, I gradually became frustrated and I excused myself.
As a trained communicator (B.A. in Communication) I knew she broke about every group communication rule in the book. I can’t help being frustrated and when I left the group I was at the point of directing the communication flow. Plus I counted 4 times when she judged several people who were not sitting with us.
Instead of taking over, I chose to walk away.
I Corinthians 16:14 tells us, “Let all that you do be done in love.”
I knew I could direct the conversation. However, I did not think teaching a 77 year old woman how to “play fair” in group conversation could be done in a loving or a kind way.
As it stands I am glad to be back in my apartment writing and drawing silly pictures.
THAT always makes my happy. It’s what God called me to do and it’s what I do.
I continue to pray that I will love her.
I continue to pray…
Deborah
