Screamin’

Jeremiah 10:23 ESV
In a world where it seems like there’s a lot of screamin’ going on, I am reminded of a time when we chanted, “Give Peace a Chance.” And we believed it was God’s gift to us.
I know I’m old but I loved singing “Love is all you need” all day and half the night. I loved it because love, real love mattered. Men (and women) who took an oath to the constitution upheld the words. They loved America and they believed in the words.
I marvel that we were allowed to protest in the streets without worrying about being arrested. Thousands could sing “Blowin’ in the Wind” and we didn’t fear for our lives. We were America.
And, silly ole’ us…we thought we had the right to disagree with folks while we sang “Sweet Cherry Wine.”
And we thought it was normal to sing about “A Change is Gonna Come” while we planned how we could be part of the change. We didn’t hide and we weren’t afraid…we shouted and danced in the streets.
We were Americans and we had the right. We had the right to speak and scream about our plan. We had the right. We were not afraid.
Administrations came and went and songs shouted, “Say it Loud” and we fought for change unapologetically, we fought. We believed we had the right and we were not afraid.
We sang “For What It’s Worth” clear and loud. We sang clear and loud, “We better stop. Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going down. We better stop. Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going down. We better stop now What's that sound? Everybody look what's going down. We better stop Children, what's that sound? Everybody look what's going down.”
And we weren’t afraid.
We weren’t afraid about our right to democracy because the Constitution was solid and unbreakable. Nobody challenged leaving the big White House even if they lost the election.
We were America. We believed in America. I mean…didn’t everyone say the pledge?
So excuse me today if I’m old and appalled. I thought everyone heard and understood.
Generations ago Jeremiah wrote in 10:23, “I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.”
We believe God directs our steps and any man/wo-man who openly speaks of God and faith with the intent of buying votes would surely be seen for their true character. It IS God alone who directs our steps.
Pray ye….oh man. Pray that God will hear us and direct the steps of any who scoff at God and the steps.
