Mama Said Share
The Lord Supplied Fishes and Loaves
Matthew 14:15-19 NLT
The word of the Lord mattered where Mama grew up. Even when extra people came for dinner they knew
God would provide and no one would go away hungry.
Because scripture mattered, they knew God would provide. In Matthew 14:15-19 we are told, “that
evening the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the
crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” But Jesus said, “That isn’t
necessary—you feed them. But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered, bring
them here he said. Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two
fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the
bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. They all ate as much as they wanted,
and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.”
Mama’s Mama said at their house at their table everyone had their fill. No one took more than they
needed but no one went away hungry.
That’s just the way it was when mama was young. Scripture mattered.
When someone was hungry God supplied food.
When someone was sick, God provided healing. No one was turned away from Gramma’s table and
everyone who was sick was told they couldn’t enter, unless it was dangerous for them. When Mama was
young she had scarlet fever and during that time whey had to put up signs outside that warned others not
to enter because someone there had Scarlet Fever.
Back then there wasn’t a cure or a shot for scarlet fever. There were no antibiotics and it was sometimes
fatal when someone had scarlet fever. When Mama had scarlet fever her Mama prayed and she
scrubbed and scrubbed the house every day so no one else would get sick. Mama did live and no one
else in the house got scarlet fever.
They missed their loved ones during that time because they usually came for Sunday dinner, but after Mama was well again people came to eat, pray, and laugh together again. Soon it was like it was before Mama got sick. They were all grateful that Jesus healed Mama, and they said grateful no one got sick.
Mama is one of the mentally strongest people I know. I think that could be because she knew she
survived when she could have just as easily died. That’s just a theory but it makes sense to me.
