Psalm 100:1-2 ESV and MSG
If you’ve ever been blessed to be part of a congregation that really gave a joyful noise to God, you are blessed!
In my case the size of the congregation wasn’t always a factor.
I’ve been part of a congregation of 20 people and they gave a joyful noise to the Lord.
I’ve also been part of a congregation that seated 3,000 and they gave a joyful noise to God.
The important factor wasn’t in the numbers. It was in the joyful noise that each person genuinely made to the Lord!
Psalm 100:1-2 from the ESV says,
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing! “
The joyful noise we make is an expression of a heart full of love for God.
When our heart is filled with love for God and we are bursting with gladness, God knows we are bursting with gladness because of our love!
Psalm 100:1-2 from The Message was translated,
“On your feet now—applaud God!
Bring a gift of laughter,
sing yourselves into his presence.”
Now, I don’t know about you but I’ve been part of congregations that did not share the gift of laughter in church on Sunday.
I have also been part of a few congregations that did.
I loved both and so did God, but on Sunday morning it sure was easier to ‘get up and go’ to church when the congregation was happy and shared laughter.
The small congregation I mentioned earlier shared everything.
Most of the men in the congregation farmed. They sure did share funny and interesting events of their week. As we met, the women would talk about new recipes or ideas but the men always met to tell interesting stories.
Both groups shared interesting highlights from their week but the men were always laughing.
Many years later I remember their laughter.
I think God does, too.
I think when I get to the pearly gates, God is gonna laugh and say, “oh…she’s the crazy one who is always laughing! By all means let her in!”
I personally think God loves a good laugh.
