Ecclesiastes 3:4 ESV
Oh my, YES!
In my book the greatest gift God gave us is laughter.
All my life people have told me they heard me coming because they heard “my laugh.”
I just can’t help it. I love to laugh!
Ecclesiastes 3:4 tells us, there is a time to weep and a time to laugh.”
In addition to laughter, I’ve also done my share of weeping. It seems like we can’t have one without the other.
But here’s the deal: when the weeping is over and we’ve worked through our grief brought about because of loss, we need to let go of the grief.
As me pa used to say, “put on a happy face”.
Sometimes putting on a happy face is not easy. The first thing we need to do is give ourself permission to be happy again. That’s not always easy to do automatically. Sometimes we need to seek out things to do that make us smile.
It helps to think of things to do that bring a smile back to your face.
Laughter (cont)
I am a list maker so I would make a list of happy things to do. You don’t need to do everything on the list everyday, but one or two things will help.
Playing with my dog is always on my list. Even though he is an ode dog he still loves to play…for a little while.
Since I’ve loved to write for more than 60 years, I would write a funny tale and draw a cartoon. Understand my cartoon drawings are not spectacular. I draw them because it makes me smile.
The point is…do what makes YOU smile.
Some people love to be pampered. If that includes you, choose a few of you favorite ways to pamper yourself. That helps you to remember you are special.
If you don’t feel special, remember that every minute (second) of every day God thinks about you and smiles.
God really does love you that much.
Not a second goes by that God doesn’t think lovingly of you.
In my case I imagine God laughing every time I do something silly (which is quite frequently). One of my goals in life is to remember to be silly. I think that’s why I love drawing very silly cartoons!
Remind yourself that weeping is part of life but when the weeping is done it’s time to put on a happy face!
