Proverbs 15:13 MSG
When wise King Solomon spotted an attitude that set the tone of the conversation he recognized it immediately.
Think about it…have you ever been enjoying a happy conversation with friends when a killjoy stepped in and literally killed the joy?
For each proverbs in chapter 15 Solomon made a valid point. He compared the good with the bad sad mad comment.
In Proverbs 15:13 he wrote, “A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.”
We can easily break it down to attitudes that we choose because in a real sense we do choose our attitude.
Psychological theories even support the fact that we humans have the power to choose our attitude in any situation.
However, there are times when we need to turn to God and ask for help as we grieve the loss of someone we love.
The smile or frown choice we make applies to our every day attitude. Most days, we can choose if we want to be happy or if we want to be sad. While that isn’t the case during times of great sorrow or great joy, those are few and far between.
Psychological studies show that if we choose to smile we stimulate feelings good hormones of serotonin and dopamine in our brain. But, how do we change that when we are having a bad day?
Simply put, we find our trigger.
Think of something that makes you smile. It might be a dog you love, a child that warms your heart, or a cat.
Now, some of us (myself included) can’t have a cat that does very crazy funny things, but we can “collect” funny cat videos to watch when we feel down and dreary. Each person can choose their own “thing” that brings a smile to their face.
I have found that cats can do very silly things and your favorite browser can help you find your own collection of videos that make you smile. Anything that triggers a smile will do the trick!
Every day we can choose happy so be intentional. Find your way to choose happy!
