Giving

This time of year we have set aside to give thanks is a rich part of American history.

I remember seeing pictures of the early settlers in America giving thanks. Only later in school did I understand the extent of their gratitude.

They weren’t only thankful for the food and friends, they were thankful for their lives. The journey across the ocean was to unknown territory of unknown people who did not speak their language.

For example, think about the Pilgrims on the Mayflower in 1620. They knew very little about the weather conditions when they landed. They came from England and Holland so they were accustomed to cold winter, but they lived in established homes.

In the new world they had no homes. They lived aboard the ship while they were building their new homes. In addition to building houses they also had to build a fort.

Even though they were accustomed to winters conditions, their homes were not completed by the time winter “set in”.

About Me

I am a child of God. I can’t remember when God wasn’t part of my life. I served in a church setting for 30+ years and now I seek to help others see and find their sacred space. Daily when we turn to God we begin to recognize where God is at work in our lives.
