Psalm 139:13-14 ESV
There are people who choose not to believe there is a God who formed people and each person is not specifically chosen to be unique.
When Psalm 139:13-14 was written around 1000 B.C. by King David we are told, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Today, more than 3000 years later we know that even identical twins have unique personalities.
In addition to physical characteristics, without being taught some children are serious and some are very funny.
Each child was created in the image of God, yet their personalities and characteristics are different.
When David wrote Psalm 139 he was a shepherd, but he was also a soldier, warrior, a poet and he was abundantly aware of the characteristics of God. God was (and is) all knowing and present with creation. Because God knows everything and can be present everywhere all the time, David knew God was capable of being intricately connected to creation all the time.
It’s amazing that David possessed an awareness that God was involved in creation. When David wrote that God formed his inward parts he was not singularly speaking of David. It was personal but it referred to all of creation.
David didn’t suppose God was only involved in the formation of David.
David was an example of all of creation. The recognition of the omnipotence and omnipresence tells us that throughout all creation God was and is present and aware.
Therefore we are all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.
Every child everywhere through all the ages was and is known by God and God is present in every part of every life. As amazing as that seems to be, when we consider the fullness of God and the never ending presence of God we suddenly know when we slow our thoughts and listen to our heart, God is present.
God knows us.
God was there when you were formed.
God gave you…you. You were uniquely and wonderfully made.
You are one of a kind.
