Psalm 37:4 ESV
Today as i sit in the doctor’s office, waiting for a shot I remind myself how grateful I am.
Psalm 37:4 tells us, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Is I read the Scripture (chosen months ago) I am reminded once again that God is ever so good. In very unexpected ways God always shows up.
I remember my Grandma Ireland who was born in 1904 and died in 2001. When she died she was blind. She had Macular Degeneration and there was no treatment when she was alive. Today, she is healed in the arms of God.
Today, I have macular degeneration. Every 4 weeks I get an eye injection that gives me the gift of sight. Even though the injection is not “fun” that one moment of discomfort makes it possible for me to write and draw.
I am grateful.
Delight yourself in the Lord.
God will give you the desire of your heart. For me, that is my sight.
So every every time I have one moment of discomfort for I tell remind myself that God will bring good to me. I tell God I am ever so grateful for all the treatments they have today. I pray for my children and my grandchildren. I pray there will be a cure so they do not have to get a shot. At the same time i know its just temporary and in the big scheme of eternity I will be healed.
So today call me grateful.
Thats important for a few reasons. Gratitude is a gift that keeps on giving. See, gratitude not only approves our attitude, it actually releases the chemicals of dopamine and serotonin in our brain.
Among other things Dopamine brings pleasure, motivation, and it helps our memory. Dopamine helps with movement in our body.
Dopamine is produced when we exercise, listen to music, eat healthy foods, sit in the sun, and meditate (just to name a few).
Serotonin regulates our mood, and helps with sleep, gives us a healthy appetite, and helps with digestion.
Serotonin is produced naturally in our nerve cells. Factors that influence production of serotonin are a healthy diet, plenty of sunlight, and exercise.
I’ve been a writer all my life. Even when I was very young I loved to write stories. In the last five years or so I took up drawing and I discovered I love it! Drawing makes me ever so happy…
I now know that doing what we love also produces dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins.
So…today choose to do at least one thing you love!
In Jesus, Deborah
