Hear Me Jeremiah
I spent a significant part of my list sitting and listening to God.
I was aware of the presence of God and the concept of hearing God because my dad talked about it…and I listened to what he had to say.
Even at a young age I had a desire to hear God.
…I really wanted God to call to me.
When I went to hear Billy Graham speak in Kansas City I recognized the presence and power of the Spirit and I had a strong sense that God was calling me to go down front. I was very small (in stature) for my age but the counselor who spoke with me treated me with respect. He spoke with me like I was an adult. I was accustomed to that because my dad spoke with me like I was an adult. Because they treated me with respect (even though I was probably as tall as a third grader), I felt like I mattered.
They prayed with me. I wept all the way home on the church bus.
When I got home I told my dad what happened. He smiled and told me he was really glad for me.
In Jeremiah 33:3 the prophet wrote “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
After that night I read my Bible all the time. My dad read his Bible whenever Gunsmoke wasn’t on television so I thought that was normal.
I’d been an avid reader since first grade so the reading wasn’t a surprise. But now couldn’t read my Bible enough. Even after all the lights in the house were out I read my Bible under the covers using a flashlight.
I did not know it at the time, but looking back I see that even then God was calling me to a life of ministry.
God called to me and I answered.
For 30 years as a pastor’s wife we served in four churches. For nearly 30 years I did a weekly sermon for children in church and I loved it!
Even after everything changed and I was single again I remained in ministry as leader of a Healing Prayer Service at a mega church.
…call to me and I will answer!
God called me to go to Seminary when I was 50 years old. At first I thought that was a crazy idea but once I started classes I found that I loved it! I had a B.A. in Communication from the University of Missouri at Columbia and I was excited about getting to read really interesting books.
Others in Seminary with me thought the reading requirement was crazy but I loved it!
…call to me and I will answer!
When I graduated from Seminary I continued to teach from time to time but my mail focus switched to writing.
…call to me and I will answer!
Now, I write a brief Bible Study daily and post those online.
I don’t know what God has in store for me in the future but I know God has a plan.
God will call and I will answer!
