Continually Seek
1 Chronicles 16:11 and Psalm 105:4
There is a theme that reoccurred again and again in the story of God. Sometimes it’s a reminder that
becomes a plea that turns into a shout.
In I Chronicles 16:11 God said to Israel, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
Israel had just returned home from the Babylonian exile and God knew they were weary and they needed
to worship. They needed to return to Temple. God knew their hearts needed to be rejuvenated.
Yet, they were busy.
They were rebuilding and they were too busy for God.
Seek the Lord. God knew they had to rebuild everything…homes and businesses. They had to
reestablish worship. But they faced severe social and economic challenges. Everything had changed in
the decades they had been away. Israel was a wasteland. Where did they begin? How could they ever
afford the cost of rebuilding? Those who returned did not have the resources or the manpower to rebuild,
so how could they possibly rebuild?
It’s as if God was telling them, ‘I can help you…I will help you. Turn to me.’ God was yearning to help
them. Consider if you had a child who was faced with rebuilding a business and didn’t have the resources
to complete the task. You knew what they did not know yet they refused to seek your help.
That’s how God felt.
In Psalm 105:4, written before King David wrote, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence
continually!” At the time this was written, Israel was returning the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and
David was reminded and was reminding that God was present with them. God made a covenant with
Abraham. God gave them the Promised Land
Seek the Lord.
God is the way home.
God is waiting for us to open our hearts and turn to His love.
Even though the road is long and filled with problem after problem God wants to help. God wants us to
receive His love.
Seek the Lord.
Remember God and turn.
