John 13:34 MSG
Have you ever had a teacher who raised the bar every time you went to class?
I had one teacher who continually raised the bar. The interesting element of his teaching is that he raised the bar in different ways and at a different rate for all students who were actively engaged in the subject matter.
He came along at a perfect time for me. Going into 7th Grade I mysteriously became obsessed with Speech Class. I wanted to learn how to give a good speech. He somehow saw that in me and he pressed in and challenged me in new ways.
From that point on, I was hooked.
When it came time for me to choose a college major at the University of Missouri I knew it was Speech and Communication. In time while I figured out I could give a good speech, I was much better at communication writing than speaking.
The whole of my life, writing has brought me great joy. When God called me to go to Seminary around the age of fifty, I couldn’t understand why God would want an ole woman to go through a long and arduous program.
In time it became clear that Seminary helped me to put together all the pieces of the puzzle of me life. I had been a pastors wife for 30 years and that door suddenly closed.
God opened a new door and in time I couldn’t understand why see it was a wonderful door.
Seminary offered me new challenges in writing I’d not known. It helped me to put together all the pieces of my life.
God gave me a new command. In John 13:34 he wrote, “Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another.”
Not only did God give me a new command, love had new purpose. God knew exactly what to do!
