Romans 15:13 ESV; Romans 3:21-24 MSG
In many many ways the saying Over the Moon can mean countless things. It can mean you are over the
moon about your new shoes. It can mean you are totally over the moon about your new sweet pup. It can
mean you are over the moon about the prices at a new store. Ultimately all of those things are
temporary. Shoes wear out. Your new pup whizzes on your new sweater, and prices at the store rise and
fall with changes in the economy. In the end the only thing that always remains is God. Jesus/God is eternal…
forever.
Romans 15:13 tells us, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
The unending love of God is the only lasting element that gives us real hope. But there is a deal. God will
not force us to receive eternal hope.
We have a choice. We can choose to go our way by ourself or we can turn to God and place our hand in
the hand of God. Some would say the rules for that are far too stringent. In truth there is one rule…love
God. Love God more than we love earthly things. When we love God/Jesus more than temporary earthly
things the Spirit of God becomes our guide on the road.
Will we always remember to put love first? It’s unlikely…we are human. But Romans 3:21-24 tells us:
“in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.”
Now that’s over the moon!
In God Jesus, Deborah
