New New Day
Day 3
The first day I could have met Patty didn’t turn out like I’d hoped it would.
By the time I got up and ate breakfast I asked Grandma if Patty had been outside. Grandma could see their driveway from her kitchen window and she said their car was gone, so they might have gone to run errands.
Grandma also told me it was raining outside.
I didn’t mind the rain, but I was disappointed I might not get to meet Patty.
Grandma told me she had been thinking and early this morning she had an idea about both of us setting up a special place where I could go to draw and paint.
I knew grandma’s house was a two story house but Grandma told me there was an attic that had windows so I could see outside. She took me to a place in the house that had a door I hadn’t even noticed before. I thought it was another closet.
When grandma opened the door there were steps leading up. The steps were pretty tall so grandma told me to be careful going up and down the steps.
Grandma was right! The steps were tall! I asked her where we were going. She said “we’re going to the attic.”
When we reached the top of the steps a grandma opened another door to a room that was filled with stacks of things and boxes. Grandma said she knew it smelled musty but she could fix that the next time we went to the store.
I really didn’t mind the smell. I thought it was a wonderland filled with beautiful boxes. I could tell they were old but they were beautiful!
I asked gramma, “where did all of this come from?”
Grandma smiled and said, “well…different places from different people. These are my treasures from my Mother and my Grandmother. Some came from my Aunts and Great-Aunts. These things are very old so we must be careful with them.”
I promised Grandma I would be careful.
She smiled and said to me, “Oh, darlin’ I know that.”
I noticed there was some furniture and there were windows.
Grandma told me she was pretty sure there was a small table and a stool I could use. After we looked we did find a short table and a stool. Grandma and I moved the table and the stool to one of the windows. There were some cob webs so Grandma found an old broom and she cleared away the cobwebs. She said, “we need to put spider traps on the grocery list so they don’t bother you.”
I told Grandma I wasn’t afraid of spiders but she said it’s best to be safe.
After we set up my special space at the window, we went back downstairs and gathered up some of my art supplies so I could draw pictures in my art studio.
I thought it was really cool that I was going to have my own studio!
I gave grandma a huge hug and told her thank you for giving me space to up my art studio.
Grandma smiled and gave me a huge hug. She said, “I’m so glad you’re here!”
Grandma went downstairs to work and I sat down and started drawing. I loved my new studio.
When Mom got home from her new job I took her upstairs to see what we did while she was gone. Mom said, “Oh my, you have been busy!”
I hugged Mom and told her I’m glad we came to Grandma’s house!
She smiled and said, “So am I.”
