Rest today in Faithfulness. Know that God is faithful.

Psalm 41:3, “The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.”

Notice in our scripture today that the Lord sustains him (the poor) to full health.

The man who is blessed is the man who considers the poor. Now…in this case the poor refers to any who are poor in any way. So it’s the economic poor, the person who has poor health, the person who lacks friends, or even the person who has poor health. That would even include the person who has poor eyesight.

That would be me.

I was blessed with three eye diseases. All three cause blindness. While i have internal lenses I am still classified as being blind. Thankfully, eye doctors today are able to prescribe glasses so i can see from a distance and i have glasses so I can see up close. I have different glasses for different situations. One of my diseases is Macular Degeneration and while there is no cure, there is a treatment.

I don’t share that for the sake of sympathy. I share that as an example of God’s goodness and grace.

Today’s scripture gives me great hope. It reminds me that God remembers me every time I struggle to see and I have to search for a different pair of glasses so I can see. That may seem like a silly thing to you but it warms my heart to be reminded that God remembers me.

I am also reminded of my two grandmothers who also had eye diseases. My dad’s mother had Macular Degeneration at a time when there was no treatment. She was blind.

My Mother’s Mother had glaucoma. She did hand quilting and she made the most beautiful quilts! But in her latter years she could not see well even with glasses. She lived well into her 90’s and she was unable to quilt or clean or cook. She spent her days sitting.

She lived with my aunt who fed her and cared for her needs but I’m sure she felt useless. I did go see her when I had the chance but I lived several hours away so it wasn’t often.

Both of them were believers. Both went to church all their lives. My grandmother who had glaucoma was a church pianist when she was younger.

In both cases, there was no treatment. By the time they died they were blind. Knowing what I know now about loss of eyesight, I marvel at their courage and faithfulness to God.

I figure it takes one second for the shot because my doctor is really good at what dhe does.

According to Google there are 2,629,800 seconds in a month.

For one eye i get a shot about every 30 days.

I figure even though getting a shot in my eye isn't fun, I pray and God is faithful to help me to rest and have courage every time I get a shot.

After several years of getting one shot a month my other eye now also needs a shot. That’s not uncommon.

Once again, getting two shots a month still beats going blind.

I am grateful for a doctor who knows how to give a good shot.

I am grateful that God gives me courage.

My treat for getting a shot is going to see the clown with red hair to get the best fish sandwich on the planet.

All in all…God is Good!
