Weaving Eternity

Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

Psalm 90:2 ESV

Isaiah 40:28 ESV

Revelation 22:13 ESV

When I was young I thought my dad didn’t get “it”. When I was once writing a Bible Study I asked him for help. I really thought I knew something and I could do it on my own, but I asked him for help because I thought it would be better.

He said no.

He didn’t usually say no when I needed help, so I asked him why.

He said it was because I need to learn how to do it. I reminded him I’d been to college and was a communication major. He laughed and said, sure. Then he added, but when you write for God it’s a different story.

Then he told me I need to sit quiet, pray, and wait for the Spirit to come and guide me.

Oh. I knew Isaiah 55:8-9 says,

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

We are reminded that God knows everything.

So to this day even after studying in Seminary for seven years before I write  a lesson on scripture I find a quiet place, pray, and wait for God to direct me.

Today I hadn’t planned to write about Isaiah 55:8-9 but God reminded me when I prayed, ‘my thoughts are not your thought and my ways are not your ways.’ I memorized that scripture 50 years ago but I today I had to look up where it can be found in scripture.

What I’ve learned through the years is that God knows everything.

God knows who will read this lesson this week.

God knows who will read this lesson in a year…in five years…in ten years.

God knows why they need to read this lesson.

Psalm 90:2 tells us, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

Before everything was formed God knew I would write this lesson.

Isaiah 40:29 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.”

God understands why I needed to be reminded about Isaiah 55,8-9. I don’t know why, but God knows.

Revelation 22:13 tells us, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

God knows everything…for all time.

Practice: Turn to God and listen. Wait for the Spirit.
