Romans 15:33 ESV
Philippians 4:9 MSG
I Thessalonians 5:23 MSG
Hebrews 13:20 NLV
When I was young I couldn’t understand why peace was such a big deal.
Now I get it.
Romans 15:33 tells us Paul wrote, “The God of peace be with you all. Amen.”
Amen means ‘so be it.” Amen in the Ancient Hebrew of the Old Testament and in the Koine Greek of the New Testament means so be it.
His words were much more than a casual comment. They were a fervent prayer that ended with the words so be it.
The truth of the matter is that Jesus and the Apostles lived in a most difficult time. The Roman Empire answered to no one.
There were no outside world watch dogs.
They didn’t have mass communication reporting their dastardly deeds.
Because “power” was the only watchdog, they could crucify or beheaded anyone they chose to make a point. The point was that the Roman emperors were in charge. The abuses of power were everywhere.
No one would ride in from the west to save the abused. In some ways it seems like we take our world structure for granted today.
We take it for granted that our grandfathers (or great-grandfathers) fought in World War I where the central powers that were made up of three entities fought the allied forces to restore freedom and rights in the world.
We even take it for granted that our fathers (or grandfathers) fought in World War II where more than thirty countries made up the allied forces who fought the axis forces to hold onto their freedom.
We have had wars and rumors of wars.
Where I live we have freedom of religion…any religion.
We have the right to make choices and even if we do not agree with the current power structure (interestingly enough we call them parties) we have the right to choose.
In Philippians 4:9 Paul wrote, “Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.”
Pay attention to scripture to have harmony. Amen.
I Thessalonians 5:19 says , “Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master.”
Pay attention to the Spirit that is active in the modern world. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20 tells us, “God is a God of peace. He raised our Lord Jesus from the dead. Jesus is the Good Shepherd of the sheep. His blood made the New Way of Worship which will last forever.”
God’s peace is free for the asking. Asking for peace in your heart is yours when you ask.
Look to the good shepherd Jesus. By His shed blood He made all things new.
Amen and Amen…so be it. Receiving peace is a promise when we ask for peace. Today look to Jesus who died for you.
Deborah
