Ephesians 4:2 CEV
It makes me sad that in today’s world even in church Ephesians 4:2 is not often practiced.
In many churches (not all) the underlying motto is “dog eat dog” especially with church pastoral staff.
Ephesians 4:2 tells us, “Conduct yourselves with all humility, gentleness, and patience. Accept each other with love,” which means really love one another.
I am aware there are exceptions, but there are also many church members who rule the pastor. It’s no wonder the burn out rate for pastors is so high.
According to the Barna Groups 4 in 10 pastors consider quitting the ministry. What makes that alarming is that pastors usually have a four year college degree and four to seven years of Seminary (very expensive graduate school).
Medical doctors have a four year degree and four years of medical school. While many doctors study beyond that if they specialize that is done by choice.
Consider this…medical school will reap a financial reward for doctors yet pastors might spend decades paying off Seminary debt.
How many medical doctors are treated badly by their patients by being yelled at and challenged?
Now, here’s the rub…if there are church members who treat their church staff badly what are the chances they are conducting themselves with gentleness at work? Those people may only make up 2% of the Christian population but those two percent WILL be remembered in the world by their neighbors and co-workers.
So are we humble and gentle?
