Series: God Gives

1 Corinthians 12:10a ESV

There are many modern (or maybe not so modern) schools of thought about the work of the gifts of the Spirit in today’s world.

Some Christian groups believe there are some miracles not available in the modern church or with Christian believers.

There are other Christian groups that practice some of the miracles.

There are still others who believe all miracles are still available to us today.

I say each  group is correct.

To those who believe miracles listed in scripture are not available today that is the framework they live under.

To those who believe and practice there are some miracles, they live and practice some miracles.

And to those who believe all of the miracles are available today, all of the miracles are available.

In 1 Corinthians 12:10a Paul wrote that God gives, “to another the working of miracles”.

God gives those gifts.

If we choose not to recognize those gifts that is what we choose.

When I was younger I was very confused by the various schools of thought in the modern day church. Thankfully ‘me da’ taught me to listen to the voice of God that whispers to me when I am really quiet and not the voices of man who screams at me every day.

So I went searching and praying for answers. I went and sat with many different kinds of Christian groups. I sat and spoke with Pentecostals, Charismatics, non-charismatics, cessationists, non-cessationists, Dispensationalists, and those holding to Covenant, or Reformed Theology. I had been a newspaper reporter/editor at one time so I quietly watched and asked questions.

What I saw from spending time with them is that each had a good point. They all loved God and sought to serve God well.

I walked away thinking God created all sorts of people and God loved them all.

There are some who would disagree with me but I think God calls it all good.

God loves.

Those who know me well know I am a great lover of dogs.

While I’ve not lived in places where I can have a Great Dane I think they are marvelous creatures. I am accustomed to small dogs and have had mostly poodle or poodle mix dogs.

God created dogs (pets) as a gift for mankind and I am grateful for every breed and size of dogs.

God calls all of them good.

And so it is with believers and how they view modern day gifts.

God created each person in each group and God loves them all. I look at it this way…God gives and we receive what we are comfortable with receiving. Because God is love there is no condemnation. See…God’s love comes with understanding.

Circle back…

That’s because God is love and in God there is no darkness (I John 1:5).

Sometimes I think the problem with man is that we are unable to fully understand the depth of God’s love.

There is a viable solution to that. Think of when you were a child and you didn’t fully understand something. Maybe you wanted to go play down the street and you didn’t understand why your dad said no.

Why did he say no?

We understand now it was because it was not safe.

The next time you want something tell God and also say you’ll understand if that isn’t the best option. Ask Papa God to give you the best option.

Then wait.

God is Papa/Ama and always wants what’s best for us. If you struggle to trust remember your earthly parent or guardian and trust God like you trusted them when you were small.

Every day remember God loves you.

About Me

I am a child of God. I can’t remember when God wasn’t part of my life. I served in a church setting for 30+ years and now I seek to help others see and find their sacred space. Daily when we turn to God we begin to recognize where God is at work in our lives.
