Zechariah 10:1 ESV

Well, we may not always be prepared for a hard rain in the spring, the Earth needs that good rain sometimes.
I remember as a child being disappointed when it rained in the spring because I wanted to go out and play. I was a girl. When I was young girls were not thought of as being hearty creatures.
In 1958 girls we’re supposed to be girls. They were not supposed to play with cars or dirt or balls. It wasn’t until much later that girls we’re encouraged to get dirty.
My question was always “Why can’t I play outside in the rain”. My mother would say girls don’t play out in the rain.
It seemed to me that if God made the rain he made the rain for boys and for girls, so I thought it was terribly unreasonable that I could not play out in the rain.
After all, God made the rain.
The Prophet Zechariah 10:1 wrote, “Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime, it is the Lord, who sends the thunderstorm.”
But the words of Zachariah were not just about rain that comes from the sky. In this short verse, Zachariah is reminding us it is God who waters are soul.
By faith and through prayer the Holy Spirit quenches our inner thirst. we ask God to quench our dry soul. We ask God to renew our Strength, for without the strength of God we often do not grow.
I would even say we grow in the wrong direction.
Some might think they are capable of making good decisions without God. However, only God knows the future only God knows how much strength we need. Only God loves us enough to be gracious and loving and kind.
Even if we are blessed enough to be surrounded by good friends who love us they cannot see what tomorrow will bring. Only God knows what tomorrow will bring and what next year will bring.
When people tell me they have no need for God they do just fine without help from God and I asked them if they can see the future they don’t have an answer. They often ask me can you see the future? My reply is “no I cannot see the future, but God can and I rely on that.”
I’ve yet to have anyone reply to that statement.
As they walk away, I don’t say anything back. I simply pray that they will continue to think and remember God can see their future.
I also ask that God will pour out love, the love of God into their hearts.
And I pray.
I pray for them because I cannot imagine what life would be like without the Holy Spirit of God replenishing me every day. Even thinking that someone goes through life without God’s help makes me very sad.
And I think it is the Lord, who sends rain into the hearts and minds of men and women.
It is the Lord who refreshes souls.
It is the Lord, who holds onto us in times of great pain and sorrow.
Blessed be the Lord, who pours out his love on us every minute of every day.
In God we trust.
